Flooded residents north of Milwaukee watch radar closely

MEQUON (WITI) — With more rain in the forecast, homeowners and emergency officials know the flooding may not be over yet!

Sharon Cardiff’s front lawn in Mequon is flooded — but she is happy.

“We were happy because it’s gone down so much from when we left,” Cardiff said.

Cardiff was out-of-town for the last few days — escaping to Manitowoc. After more than 20 years on Shoreland Drive, she has seen what a swollen Milwaukee River can do to her neighborhood.

“It’s hard to get in and out because everyone has to park their cars down by Highland and chest-waders, that kind of thing to get down to your car, get groceries…no thanks,” Cardiff said.

Mark Owen, the director of Ozaukee County Emergency Management spent Monday, April 15th touring the neighborhood. Although he said the water has receded about a foot, he noted residents are well aware there is more rain on the way.

Paul McCartney concert to be held at Miller Park on Tuesday, July 16th

MILWAUKEE (WITI) — Paul McCartney has added Milwaukee’s Miller Park to his list of concert venues in which he’ll perform on his “Out There” tour this summer. McCartney is set to play at Miller Park on Tuesday, July 16th.

“Concerts are a big deal here. It shows our fans and the taxpayers that Miller Park is not just a baseball stadium. Sir Paul will be performing songs that spanned his entire career — that as a solo artist, that as a member of the group Wings and of course, his time with the Beatles. Wright calls the event an opportunity to see one of the people who developed what music has become today,”  Jason Wright, Senior V.P. of booking for Live Nation concerts said.

High water spilling onto roadways in Ozaukee County

OZAUKEE CO. (WITI) — The water is rising in Ozaukee County. The Milwaukee River is at  flood stage in Saukville — that’s something at least a couple of drivers learned the hard way.

Paul Krauska, the owner of Eddie’s Service, pulled one car from the swollen Milwaukee River on Friday. He says driving over the two-foot-deep water is a good way to wreck your ride.

“Your fresh air intake is on the bottom of the car so it just sucks it right up into the intake and it instantaneously locks your engine and you stall, you’re dead,” said Krauska.

While the flooded roads are a hassle for humans, the Riveredge Nature Center outside of Saukville says this is good for fish and other animals that call the river home.

Heavy rain, high water threatens levee in Kenosha County

KENOSHA Co. (WITI) — Due to the recent heavy rains, the Kenosha County Sheriff’s Department indicates there is the possibility the levee which retains Vern Wolf Lake near the Bong Recreation Area might fail.

If the levee should fail, State Highway 75 south of 18th Street would flood immediately.  It is expected that flood waters would at best compromise the integrity of State Hwy. 75 and at worst wash out portions of the road.

“We will be monitoring the situation 24/7 for the next 48 hours,” said Marcus Smith, a DNR spokesman.

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation has requested that State Hwy. 75 be closed from State Hwy. 142 to County Hwy. K.  Local traffic will be allowed, but NO TRAFFIC will be allowed to cross the culvert on State Hwy. 75 south of 18th St.
